Pagani's 6:30 and why it's gutter journalism
Yesterday half the internet exploded when a Facebook page congratulated Pagani on driving a record 6:30 lap around the Nurburgring.
The word quickly spreaded and reached us too and all seemed too good to be true. And so it was.Yesterday at 1 am CET a page on Facebook called Lovecars posted the following:
Congratulations Pagani Automobili on a new ring record of 6:30 in the awesome Zonda Revolucion! #lovecars
This bait was later picked up by many news pages and quickly spread and made people freak out. 6 min 30 seconds! That's 17 seconds faster than the Zonda R which already sounds a bit suspicious. And so we didn't jump on the train. To be honest, I'm surprised how many people just took this post for real and congratulated Pagani but more importantly, it showed to me that many journalists have forgotten their main task: researching.First of all this post is the only source to this news, no official statement, no video, no nothing. This made it in the first place suspicious when I read the news.Secondly where does this record suddenly come from? As said by Ring specialist BTG record laps aren't just driven in 1 lap, it takes weeks or even months to get the perfect lap and someone would've noticed. After all a hardcore Zonda isn't the most low-key car you'll see and hear. Finally if we go back to what Ward wrote yesterday, the Nurburgring still has speed limits for every event happening on the Nordschleife making a 6:30 lap impossible, even if strap a rocket to it.So with a bit of logical thinking and 5 minutes research you'll come to the conclusion that the 6:30 lap is just impossible at the moment and a lot of journalists have just copy pasted and blindly believed what was spreading.
