Tesla Model Y crawls closer: CUV for the masses

Electric power to the people!!!

Tesla has been around for over a decade and isn’t planning to leave any time soon. The proof? Their upcoming Model Y, a car that one could see as a smaller version of the Model X. And just like that car, it aims mostly at practicality and accessibility for the elderly among us.

Joking aside, the Tesla Model Y really is destined to become a CUV, and it will probably come with Falcon-doors too. Sounds like a baby Model X really, and even the platform setup seems to follow this logic. Although not confirmed, Tesla is being very quiet about this car, the upcoming CUV is rumored to be built on the platform of the highly anticipated Model III. Just like the Model X is built on the platform of the Model S.

Don’t for one second think that technological evolution is grinding to a halt over at Tesla though, as the upcoming models will have a “super computer inside” them according to Musk. One he claims is 40 times more powerful than the current versions out there. This computer will be slapped into the cars to accommodate for the new, fully autonomous driving systems. A system guided by a set of 8 camera, 12 ultrasonic sensor and of course the good old radars.

But the best thing about the Model Y is the amount it is going to sell, as CUVs sell. It not only will ensure Tesla’s future, it will make the brand accessible for bigger amount of people. And judging by the amount of intrest the Model 3 generated, the people can finally get what they want. Just when, and how it will look, is something we still have to wait for.
