Mercedes-AMG GT4 prototype spotted: they're in a hurry!

Finally some real competition for the Panamera

Seems like Mercedes-AMG is in a hurry to get their Porsche Panamera competitor on the road. The proof? The fact that the concept was only unveiled last week and that a prototype has already been caught testing. Still wearing a lot of camouflage to throw us off, it being spotted means we could be seeing the Mercedes-AMG GT4 on the roads in 2018. Yes, 2018 might sound quick but put it into perspective: they have the platform, they have funds, they have the engines. The birthday-boy AMG has plenty of work left though, as sharing a platform doesn't mean it's just a new shell showing. Completely rounding up the real-world test is one thing due to all the miles the brand needs to cover, but another thing is making it handle like a proper AMG should.

Ceramics and four exhaust tips do show that the Mercedes-AMG GT4 means business, serious business. Enough to fight off the insane Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is something we'll have to wait for. Or if they will give it the drift-mode the brand new E63 enjoys. Images via AutoWereld.com
