Renault Megane caught testing.

Remember that I regularly take my camera with me to work in the smallest configuration, meaning no battery-grip and the smallest lens I have? Well this week something different popped up then I am used to seeing in Rotterdam. A test vehicle, you know the ones that are heavily wrapped to be unrecognizable. Moving from one work location to another I wasn't really paying attention to the traffic when one of my collegeas yelled: "what's that Ward?" I laid eyes on it and seconds later I had the camera in my hands. It was forced to stop at a traffic light and thus I was able to take the pictures you are able to view in the gallery below. Oh I also managed to make this small clip of it moving along.

It was immediately recognizable as a Renault, the front and rear lights are very similar to the ones you see in the current generation Renault Clio. Luckily those LEDs are placed differently then they are on the Clio. Those rising lines and rear window clearly show a design even more similar to the Clio and Captur and why not as both of those cars are quite successful in their segment. And succes is what is needed for Renault to survive as the Global crisis of 2008 hit the company hard. Leaving them with less money for development, exactly the reason why the current generation of Megane has been around for so long ( 2008).

We can expect 3 doors, 5 door and wagon configurations to be available. Of course the Renault Sport model will be available and with each generation getting more and more horsepower, I expect this car to have around 300. Earlier I wrote about the Alpine getting a 1.8 TCe engine instead of the 1.6 TCe. It won't be a surprise if the new Alpine and Megane RS share that engine. More interesting though is the possible diesel performance model that is to come, with more and more manufacturers offering cars with powerful diesel engines and sporty chassis it is logical to conclude a similar course of action from Renault. Think of cars like the Ford Focus ST-D, Skoda Ocativa VRS and the Golf GTD.The launch is to be expected in 2016 and same goes for delivery. With more and more information leaking trough, we'll keep you guys posted.
