New BMW 5 Series Touring arrives | For Europe only

25 years of cargo-hauling BMW wagons gets a chapter added

BMW launched the latest generation of 'fünfer' last year and it was no secret that the wagon variant was due before Geneva this year. Its curtain has now been lifted and the brand new BMW 5 Series Touring is here for the EU market solely. Information for the impatient types: it offers 570 liters of luggage space. A full 100 liters less than the Mercedes E-Class. Already 7 generations down the line, the latest generation of the 5 Series Touring is called the G31. And like with any new version of this car, it is a revolution rather than something completely different. Both the interior and exterior aesthetics can be directly traced back to its F11 predecessor. Looks can be deceiving however, as the car is completely new under its skin. This results in a negligible growth in length but the biggest change is a 100 kilogram weight drop and the standard fitted air-suspension for the rear axle.

It's still the BMW you'll be familiar with in terms of what the new BMW 5 Series Touring offers in drivetrains. There's 4 flavors of engines available with a little side-dish called X-Drive for the most powerful engines. Those most potent engines are the 540i and the 530d, offering 335 and 261 horsepower. Entry-level engines are only available with RWD for now and include a 520d with 187 horsepower and a 530i with 248 horsepower. No word on more powerful versions yet. Same goes for the possible return of an M5 touring, but with this car just being here for the EU, chances are slim BMW will ever develop a G31 M5.
