Lamborghini Urus Unveiled: World's First SSUV

After the concept from a few years ago and endless teasers the 650 hp Lamborghini Urus has finally been unveiled.

"The first Super Sports Utility Vehicle". That's what the new Lamborghini Urus is called. Unveiled in Lamborghini's home town, the Urus is suspected to become the brand's biggest seller. And that's why they built a whole new factory: the Lamborghini Factory 4.0. For 18 months the new factory was built from the ground up on an 80.000 square meters. It's a zero emission production plant where people and machines work in harmony. This to improve worker ergonomics while retaining the brand's craftsmanship.

The Lamborghini Urus was a great challenge to put the Lambo DNA inside an SSUV. The high center of gravity and bigger mass were the biggest challenges. However they didn't want to make it just another street-only SUV so they thoroughly developed its off-road capabilities as well.

The car is powered by Lamborghini’s first twin-turbo 4.0 V8 in history producing 650 hp and 850 Nm’s of torque powering the car to 100 kmh in 3.6 seconds, 0-200 in 12,8 seconds and up to a top speed of 305 kmh. With a curb weight of less than 2.200 kg it has the best specific output of 3,38 hp/kg in class. This makes it the fastest SUV on the market today.

Lamborghini guarantees a fast SUV on-road as well as off-road. That’s why its been fitted with a new 4 wheel drive system and torque vectoring. There’s a standard torque split of 40 in the front and 60 in the rear with 70% maximum to the front and 87% maximum to the rear. Rear-wheel steering is nothing new and we can expect almost every other car in the future to use this virtual wheel base technology.
The air suspension allows the car to adapt the ride height depending on the situation its running in.
The guys at Sant’agata Bolognese did their best to make this car off-road worthy. Sadly however all that research money won’t be put into practice very often since most owners biggest off-road challenges will be speed bumps and puddles.

The interior takes a lot of hints from the Huracán with the virtual cockpit and new infotainment system it brings power, excitement and enjoyment to the people inside. The driver’s seat has been designed so that you get the feeling of being a pilot whilst still sitting comfortably in Lamborghini’s signature luxury.

The Lamborghini Urus will set you back 170.000 € before taxes and will be ready for delivery spring 2018. Are you buying one?
