2019 Corvette ZR1: The Return Of The King
Today Chevrolet introduced their new top dog in Dubai, the new 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is the most powerful Corvette ever made in its 64 year history.
After the succes of the C6 Corvette ZR1, it was just a matter of time before the seventh generation Corvette would get the ZR1 treatment as well. If you thought the 650 hp Z06 was bonkers than you haven't seen this baby yet.
Powered by a 6.2L supercharged V8 the new ZR1 puts out a demonic 755 hp and 969 Nm’s of torque. This makes it Chevrolet’s highest output car ever. This is achieved by a new supercharger unit that offers 52% more displacement than found in the C7 Z06 and GM’s new dual fuel injection system.
The car comes with a seven speed manual and eight speed automatic which is a first for the ZR1 bloodline.
A lot has changed on the outside as well. The front fascia has been redesigned to channel more air into the engine bay. Looking back at the Z06 when it launched it had cooling issues, GM is definitely making sure the Corvette ZR1 won’t be having the same issues. Thanks to four extra radiators bringing the heat exchangers total up to a number of 13. This car is going to stay as cool as it looks.
The Corvette ZR1 offers two different aero packs with wings bolted straight onto the chassis like on the C7.R Race Car:
A standard low level downforce wing which makes the ZR1 hit its top speed of 338 kmh. However it still delivers 70% more downforce than the wing found on the Z06 without creating too much drag. There’s also a 2 level adjustable high level downforce wing to optimize downforce and lap times. Besides the benefit of more downforce, it looks freakishly cool.
The 2019 Corvette ZR1 is going on sale next spring and is aiming high towards its competitors. Base price? No words on that yet but it will be around $120.000. Sadly it's going to be sold in North America only due to high-rise hood. We hope that doesn't mean it'll stop people from importing these into Europe.
