Cosmetic Comparison: Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Facelift A Success?

Comparison? No not really, us getting the chance to test the facelift Mercedes-AMG E 63 S is just a damn good reason to put it next to the pre-facelift model.

Facelifts in the automotive industry know many shapes and sizes. Purely aesthetical is most common, followed by aesthetical combined with invisible updates, and last on the list are massive overhauls for both shapes and tech. Mercedes-Benz is known for big overhauls, but this E-Class facelift (we've written plenty about it which you can find here) is the middle one of the list above.

On the facia, there's now a softer-looking design that benefits the aerodynamic properties. Compared to the pre-facelift model, it looks less aggressive. As if the botox ripped away part of the angry emotions it projected. The new headlights look way, way better. That one line, reminding you of the GT 63 S, works better and makes the lights look more composed.

Move to the side of the car and the new facia and reworked rear create a new side profile. Again looking a bit softer than the pre-facelift. These new lines make the car seem lower than it was, smaller almost. But as stated above, nothing in terms of hardware changed in the update. There's an OPF now, which is sad makes a very audible difference. That softer look and look exhaust note won't go down well with ones buying this car for ego-compensation.

Last on the list is the rear. No tummy tuck, just new light, and reshaped roundings. This works very well in person, it almost appears to be more of a GT from some angles. Where the pre-facelift looks classy, this looks like it's from the future.

So which would you go for? I'd love to mix them up, keeping the old face with new headlights and rear lights. And no OPF of course.
