MINI JCW Track Experience: The Ultimate Go-Kart Feeling
Ever wanted to drive on track but you’re scared to go out by yourself or don’t have the car for the job? Then this might be something for you. Last week MINI BeLux invited us to come check out the JCW Track Experience at the local racetrack of Zolder where you get a taste of MINI’s hottest offering.
First and foremost a little bit of background information. Since 2019, MINI has been organising various events on Zolder. One of those is the MINI Fan & Trackday. A day where MINI enthusiasts have the opportunity to meet both on- and off-track with various activities to entertain from young to old.
The other is the MINI JCW Track Experience in collaboration with Petrolhead Days. The concept is pretty straight forward: give fans, clients, or possible clients, a half a day in which they can get to know the fastest pocket-rockets MINI has on offer.
Naturally, they won’t just hand you over the keys and let you off the hook. First you need to follow the safety briefing before jumping into a group consisting of a MINI 3 Door and a Clubman or Countryman JCW. An instructor drives up front showing you the ideal lines, braking points. You follow and mimic the instructor and once he sees you’re doing good, he’ll start to pick up the pace.
Luckily Jens from Menstyle was our second driver in this little ‘train’ and he’s a pretty good driver too. Definitely check out his findings.
So over the course of the half day you’ll get to experience the 231 hp MINI 3 Door John Cooper Works and either the 306 hp Clubman or the Countryman John Cooper Works. It’s great to feel the difference between these different segment pocket rockets. Both are very nimble cars that really shine on the technical part of Zolder. The 3 Door is a bit tricky under heavy braking since it’s very light at the front but ultimately this car feels faster and more exciting. The Clubman on the other hand, just builds up so much confidence thanks to the AWD system.
And the end of the (half) day, we’ve had fun in the 2 sessions of 20 minutes driving these JCW’s gems. In between these sessions you drool at the Official Safety car of Zolder or you could battle it out with a friend on the virtual track. All in all, it really is an unforgettable day.
