Geneva 2017 | Volvo XC60 Is A XC90 Washed Too Hot
SUV's are a hot selling market right now and Volvo seemed to know that as well with the previous Volvo XC60. The new builds further onto that market by stepping up the game.
The Volvo XC60 is the smaller brother of the successful XC90 and has a lot to live up to. The last generation XC60 proved to be a success in many countries. Mostly because of the fact that the market these days is very hot for SUV's. You get a nice high ride in which you feel safe but you also don't want to have the trouble of having a car the size of a containership. And that's why the XC60 makes so much sense. It proved to be the best-selling mid-size SUV in Europe.
The new XC60 has a lot of new features packed into it. And as you might have guessed, most of those are safety related. It uses steer assist in something called Oncoming Lane Mitigation to prevent collisions with cars coming from the other direction. Steer assist also comes in hand with the Blind Spot Indication System which will prevent collisions with traffic in other lanes.
As for the engines Volvo sticks to the usual stuff we already know. So nothing bigger than a four cilinder sadly. The top of the range T8 model comes with a hybrid system that produces 407 hp and gets the car from 0-100 kph in 5.3 seconds. Not bad for a small family SUV. Don't want the hybrid stuff? The T6 is exactly the same engine producing 320 hp by turbo and supercharging it.
Production is set to start mid-april in Sweden and the first ones should be driving off the dealership towards the end of this summer. No word on pricing yet.
