Chiron Super Sport 300+ | 3.5 Million Euro Record-breaker
Time to milk the cow, or does Bugatti have every right to be proud? We'd opt for the latter
Unless you've been living under a rock, you simply can't have missed the fact that Bugatti breached the 300mph barrier with a modified Chiron. We were hoping the brand would bring the modifications to the road and they did, naming it rather unfashionably: all hail the 'Chiron Super Sport 300+'.
Let's looks past the arrogance and the name and you'll find that the Chiron Super Sport 300+ is a true tech fest. One coming in the form of 30 units, at a price of 3.5 million euros a pop. The car gets a power upgrade to start with, now coming in at 1600hp at its maximum. We salute those that manage to use that output on public roads. Bugatti needed it on the stretch in Ehra-Lessien to get the car to 490.5kph.
Furthermore, the brand worked on the body extensively to achieve lower drag and to cope with the high pressure accompanied with these speeds. Let's start at the front: there are air curtains pushing excess pressure outwards, there are outlets at the rear of the front wheels arches which also guide away excess pressure. Move back and you'll find a 250mm, so-called 'longtail' that reduces aerodynamic stall by more than 40 percent. The diffuser has been reworked to supply almost enough downforce for the entire car alone, hence the new exhaust layout. That new diffuser allows for less drag from a wing.
Aesthetically the Chiron Super Sport 300+ pays homage to the livery we know from the Veyron with a near similar name. Yes, that means the interior and exterior is a mix of black and orange. Double-stitched seams, hand-painted stripes, simply the full package. Coolest addition is the carbon windscreen wiper though.
That speed though.. insane.
