911R hot of the press featuring hardcore manual
Since the 991 GT3 came out, people have been dying to see a manual gearbox back into the hardcore porsche. Prayers have been heard as Porsche just released the covers off the new 911R.
911 purists rejoice! We finally have a new hardcore 911 fitted with 3 pedals and a stick. Ward found out what it's like:
The 911R knob almost felt magical, I tried to pull it but it wasn't the sword of the King Arthur story.
4.0L N/A
The 911R thanks its name to the original '67 911R (R stands for Racing) which participated in multiple rallies (although I have a feeling that this one won't see the gravel that often). The 911R features the same methodology as its ancestor. A lightweight construction coupled to a high performance 4.0L naturally aspirated six-cylinder found in the GT3 RS producing 500 hp. But unlike the RS with its PDK, the R features a magical third pedal linked to a stick in the center of the car.
Weight reduction bruh
Purism, that's all what this car is about. Radio? Who needs that when you have a 4.0L singing behind your back. Airco? Just roll the windows down if you're too hot.The front fenders and luggage compartment are made out of carbon fiber while it's magnesium roof keeps the center of gravity low. Rear seats and interior insulation have been stripped to make this car 50 kg's lighter then the GT3 RS.However if you do like a bit of comfort, Porsche is able to put these luxuries back without extra cost.
Limited Edition
As all good things in life, the 911R comes in a limited series of 991 units worldwide. Price starts at 170.000 € and will sadly soar after all cars have been delivered. Which makes us a bit sad because this could really be the best 911 the world has ever seen.
