2017 AMG E63 shows its brutal secrets

Brutal in a good way that is.

Mercedes has pulled the cover off the 2017 AMG E63 one month before its debute in Los Angeles. And you guessed it right, it's an even more brutal successor of the most powerful E-class to date. But new 2017 E63 has some unseen tricks up its sleeve.

Biggest trick of the latest product to come out of Affalterbach is its driftmode, something we wrote about earlier. It works together with the 4MATIC+ system that is mandatory from now on in the AMG sedan. That system has been configured in such a fashion that at the flick of a button (or paddle in this case) all power will be send to the rear wheels untill the driver decides otherwise. Yup, the E63 won't lose its reputation of tyre-slayer.

This makes it the most powerful engine to have ever been installed in an E-Class. At the same time it is even more efficient thanks to a cylinder deactivation system fitted as standard, and thus sets the benchmark in its segment. - Mercedes AMG. Ah yes, they also thought of reducing fuel consumption. A very relevant selling point in cars like this. Ahem.

Power from the turbo-charged 4-liter V8 comes in at 571 horsepower and 750 Nm torque for the E63 4MATIC+, launching it to a hundred in just 3.5 seconds. The more powerful and probably the best selling E63 is the S 4MATIC+. In this trim it uses a bigger boost setup pushing out 612 horsepower and 850 of torque, cutting off 1 tenth of a second while at it. A further optimised Speedshift MCT also aids in those crazy zero to a hundred times. Stopping is done with 360mm or 390mm disks up front and you'll need the biggest ones if you decide to flick the optional 300 kph limiter.

Handling enchantments for the 2017 AMG E63 include a bucket list worth of options. Active engines mounts for the AMG E63 S 4MATIC+, a locking differential for the 'normal' AMG E63 and an electronic one for the 'S'. The car's track has also been increased by 17mm and it has gained a unique setup of the Air Body Control dampening system. Like in any modern day car, the latest AMG benefits from fully customizable drive modes to further enhance the drive.

So when will we see this 1880 kilogram beast on the roads? Early 2017 they say.
